OKay well as the title suggests !'m getting to the end of my tether spending countless hours converting
.avi files to a DVD format and then burning them to disc and them not fkn working.

The programs i have used are xilisoft Video Converter
and Nero Vision (im not sure i did it correctly with vision as i did not see any conversion)

My burn software is Nero 8.

Please tell me what programs you guys use, what formats you convert to and whatever else needs to be said.
Don't worry about 'exclusive' software, i have rapidshare, i can get anything.

IM COUNTING ON YOU! Very Happy

how come you want to convert them back to DVD format?

personally i dont do this, i just play straight from the dvd rip (.avi file)

i believe that nero should have the all in one solution where you select your file and it burns and converts it at the same time.

it does take a while which sucks though.

do you HAVE to convert to dvd format?

ahh ok, well you would be surprised as to how many actually read avi files. if the dvd player is divx certified it will read the avi files and play them.

my shitty $20 one actually reads them so give it a try or ask your uncle if his player has a divx logo on it

Our 2 years+ old DVD machine plays .avi files without a problem. I can't remember when last I've written a movie or something back to original DVD format. avi = less hassle.

DVD players are a strange bunch, some $50 dvd players 5-10 years ago had it while the $500 ones back then didnt. Really depends on what they bought and how clued they are to what they have. Alot of the older (a few years) mainstream players like sony etc (especially sony since they do movies too) have the divx stuff on them. Dont know how they shape up now though.

As for nero, yes it does have a built in one that automatically converts to dvd format and burns it, but depending on the codec it can be really bad at not playing in dvd players.

The one that i used to use was Ashampoo 8 (there is v9 out now), although its a bit more of a simple program.

The other prog is VSO ConvertXtoDVD which has the extra bits for adding subs, making menu's and changing the compression stuff.

I've used Nero 8 to do that. Weird that your having problems. Must be the codecy thing the woff was talking about Sad
