But what i do know, is ex boyfriends and happen to have just the right amount of "persuasion" when it comes to telling them to FUCK OFF!!!
with the size of those scopes you should be able to persuade this ex in Melbourne from your place 47.... I hope when you go hunting you don't use them... scopes are for nublets!!! lol
I thought it best not too derail uver's thread so il stir shit here instead
Ok... well, there seems to be some conjecture about the use of scopes on rifles when hunting... I use scopes for a number or reasons, the first being the humane aspect of culling feral animals, theres is nothing more disheartening then a slow and painful death for an animal, yes they may be ferrel and an un wanted pest but that does not justify them suffering (unles its a pig). A scope enables a much more effective chance of a "clean" kill and is much more satisfying.
The second reason is becuase i also shoot as a competitive sport and with a rilfe that has an effective range of about a 1k, too NOT use a scope would like using a Ferrarii as a golf cart in a game of mini golf, youd just be a tosser!
So criticise me and ridicule my choices if you must but please bare in mind, Ive been shooting since i was a kid, i know guns like Boogie knows ice breaka bottles and garden hoses you can have your no scope and il have my scoped rifles, il have you dead before you even hear the shot, care to take me on...?
I have to agree with 47 here (although not on the killing kittens part): In sport or hunting a scope is to the shooter and the target's advantage. It is an advantage to the target because of a "clean kill" so no suffering etc. Also, can you imagine yourself in a crowd with hundreds of people next to you and there is a sniper on the roof trying to take out the person next to you - I want that sniper to have a damn good scope (and a very gentle trigger finger) so that he gets his target first time and not shoot me. Imagine snipers sitting on a building's roof with someone's voice running through their head "Scope is for wimps! Go no scope!" He'll just randomly aim into the crowd where he thinks the target should be approximately and then kill the wrong person. I did competitive small bore shooting at school and the targets are sometimes so far away that you won't even see it without a scope.
Also, when hunting you want a decent shot especially when it comes to trophy heads etc. You don't want a damn bullet hole through your prized deer head just above the eye just because you didn't feel like using the scope.
Its all fun and cool in CSS when we no-scope, but IRL scopes are cool mkay =D Without scopes, you'll be like a troop of patriotic Braveheart look-alikes running aimlessly and scopeless shooting randoms.
47, why would you want a pig to suffer?

Well first up Coder, i hate pigs... Gowing up, my mum used to work in a mannor of pigeries and of course on school holidays and sometimes weekends, id get dragged to the most stinking cess pool hellish workplace ive ever encountered, but not only did i have to put up with the smell etc, it was part of my job as "a big strong young man" to do the dead run every morning i would help, which included going through all the pens, finding any that had died the last night, skull dragging out what ever is left and taking them to the dead pit... But then it came to moving them from pen to pen, and when your dealing with 400-500 kilo mating boars and have nothing but a peice of ply with handles as a blocker board, things got real tough, both my mum and myself would get multiple bruises... I FUCKING HATE PIGS!!!! so everytime i shoot one or any time i enjoy a nice peice of roast pork or some bacon i say a polite FUCK YOU under my breath and savour the victory!!! end rant...

But that doesnt mean i enjoy making them suffer or any sadistic crap like that, i intend to kill them with the same precision i would any other animal, its just i feel less guilty then say shooting a kangaroo or a dolphin

Shoot dolphins? That's worse than the kittens.

yeah man, you gotta get those fuckers when they do that cute "leap through the air" shit, and BAM!
but getting the trajectory right so it goes through the blowhole and into the skull so it mounts up real nice as a trophy is pretty hard eh. THATS why you need a scope.

Didnt mean to offend 47, i just lol @ stuff and i have my reasons. Culling feral animals i can understand, killing for food is cool too but i dont think it should be called a sport. A sport would be if your target was moving and shooting back... oh wait - thats armed combat. Anyway, the last shot i fired was when i was 22 - and i hope it will be the last i ever have to fire...

Lol coder of rofl quoth, ive never thought of mounting a dolphin, do you think it would get all the cutsy woutsy's ffrom the chicks or what...? Il even throw in one of those motion activated sensors that sets off the dophin squeek
Haha, yeah Ferret, no offense taken at all buddy... but when it comes to shooting some people can get very critical indeed, ive chicks refuse to talk to me again cause they found out that im a hunter, so i try to be as clear as i can...
Your right though, there is a difference between shooting for food and sport i was refering too is axactly that, im a member of the S.S.A.A that hold monthy home competitions and if your good enough you get to go to state, long range tactical out too a 1K!, shooting paper targets, no animals involved... 3years running i will have made state champs now... heres a shot...
And, the targets we shoot at... this is at 300m, the rings are roughly an inch apart, twas a bit gusty that day, hard to pick your shot form one to the next...
Quoth...

Soz coder of course I am joking. I haven't shot a thing in my life (except pixels) and don't plan too. I don't mind targets, and I see 47's reasons, just not my line you could say
So, two nines and three tens 47? you realise in counter strike that would prob make your KDR pretty shit. HS are the only things that count... cmon, your missing 2 out of five shots.... you should of done better, the targets weren't even leaping about like retards in a GG server, and you still missed
..... so lets hope you are as good a shot as it seriously looks like you are, when you catch up with me!

I did the prone target shooting too but with a smaller caliber rifle and without the stand on the front side of the gun. More like this (not me, just an illustrative pic):
I wanted to continue with it, but it would've been super expensive. And then I'm left handed too, so everything is 15% more expensive. I had a .177 rifle at home with which I practiced breathing etc. Even years after quitting the sport I still got into position with the .177 and just go through the motions of getting ready to take a shot - relaxing and clears your mind
Don't worry Quoth, I've never killed an animal with a gun and I'm sure I will never.

Guns are fun, I love shooting, hate killing things tho (I dont have the heart). I've killed possums before, but Im good at head shooting. Got to play with my dads new .243 in the holidays, looks alot like this with the suppressor and bipod (the old mans, well old so he needs some help keeping shit steady):
I havnt shot a rifle in about 6 years, but I still hit my mark dead centre at 75metres. Not bad I think considering the last 2 rounds I fired were from his old 7mil, the first to scare me about the recoil, the second to get the fuck over it . Both into a hillside, I wasnt holding it properly the first time, and wast very big, so left a bruise. Shooting at shit is fun tho
And while we're on the subject, I wanna play with one of these:

1: Pretty sure silencers are illegal. And 2: My old man is looking into F class competitive shooting 47. He's got a hard on for a 6.5x284. Now he just the needs the dough.

Not illegal in NZ Just hard to get hehe..

Its not a silencer, its a supressor, makes it go from a big boom, to a little boom, and reduces recoil.

And it takes away some of the precision of the gun.

well the nz police firearms manual doesnt mention supressor at all from what i could see, closest thing is a silencer

My fathers gun is nicknamed "Sneaky Gun" as hes blown away deer in a padoc with houses on either side without any attention. The stories goes it was 25 seconds from the gun going off to the deer being on the back and they were gone My family have lots of old hunting stories like that, Ive been part of some of them, awesome fun
