| So, as a student I get free windows 7, 2 catches tho 1: I have to DL the bloody thing 2: I get the version that isnt compatible with fuck all
Therefore to install it I have to wipe my system So I have spent most of today backing shit up on to the flats external hardrive, needless to say its being a tantrummy little bitch
So, depending on how the next hour goes I may be MIA for a few days, if back at all considering my 4 cores have been running 100% for a few hours now
Ive backed up all my docs, music, and all my steam games So hopefully its a matter of, install new os, put everything back where it belongs, DL Steam, vent, MSN, Email, Firefox............................... O shit, Im going to need win rar too Thank you microsoft for providing students free access to your overpriced software and then putting the boot in, again
Anyway, see you sooner or later DA out
On another note, fuck you microsoft The download is the Installer CD Image, and as I dont have a spare 3GB or more DVD lieing around, and Im too poor to afford one, and as the version (Professional) is a cock sucker and wont allow me to run the CD Image with Daemon Tools to do the damn install, stuck with Vista until I have some money. 10 hours later and all I have is the need to punch the mouthy Microsoft rep in the face who responded to my enquiries about how to get this free software he was promising us with a one line reply email saying "Got to website, Download and work it out yourself" (paraphrasing but seriously, last year they just gave us the disks and keys on campus).
So in the words of the fucked up evil robot from portal, Im still alive

| really? i got win 7 64bit pro from uni.. and for future ease of reformatting u should try using separate hdds for separate uses, like i have a hdd for multimedia, one for programs and my ssd for my os, so basically when it comes time when u need to reformat ur os.. u can jst make a copy of the registry then when u reinstall put ur old registry back and uve got all ur programs back without having to reinstall | |

| http://ninite.com/ - makes things alot easier after install.
Oh and with the not enough dvd shit, you can get a single dvd for $2 at foodtown.... If you really cant afford that do you have a flash drive thats 4gb or above? cause you could always format that and use it as a bootable flash drive. (plenty of tut's on the net)
Amz he is prob going from xp to 7 so it wouldnt work copying the reg anyway.

| Download the microsoft tool that is specifically designed for putting the image on a USB and just do it from that. It's what I did when I installed 7. Can't remember what it's called but it shouldn't be too hard to find. | |

| Tried that Edgers, it refuses to accept out external hard drive as a useable medium, even tho the F*%#ing thing has 26GB free waiting to accept its bull
Curse you Microsft, why cant free really be free

| Well the reason its "free" is that your not getting any storage medium, otherwise there are costs involved. End of the day quit bitching, you got a program worth a few hundred for free.....
It wont work on an external hard drive that has shit on it. You need to make it bootable. Try making a seperate partition and doing it that way. Oh and make sure your motherboard supports usb boot.

| I know, Im bitching, but I has this new toy I want to play with but I cant unwrap it, its driving me sane. At this rate Im going to approach it rationally, and that never leads to anything good | |

| Windows 7 is not just Vista with a face-lift - quite a lot of new features and functionality was added to the Win7 package.
For a brief overview, check this link: http://www.intowindows.com/difference-between-vista-windows-7/ and http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/compare/versions.aspx.
For the average home user most of those things don't really make a massive difference, but from a business perspective those things are really neat.
Win7 does run faster and smoother, if your hardware is sufficient.
