I have CSS:Beta. Its pretty cool with the achievements etc. And the tab menu to see all the players & scores were very nicely updated. The MVP thing was awesome - you get sparkly stars next to your name
Only thing that sucks is that all the available servers were not in NZ/Aus and had a ping of 300+. Also sucks that not one of my Steam friends have it so I'm stuck playing with random 15 year old kiddies.
There was a Steam link/ad the one morning when I opened Steam and I clicked and downloaded the content. When I got home, Slicker also wanted it but it said that the required number of beta participants was reached.
On the link that Snowy provided it says:

Notice: Thanks for your interest. We've filled the available slots.
yeah that sucks, looks like it was clearly targeted to the US market for no servers in AUS/NZ
hopefully when it comes out though they can keep css separate from the new beta or something?? or is it going to be a universal update to all css??
would have liked to have checked it out but looks like i can wait, just purchased AVP and the new battlefield so that will keep me busy for a little bit
One thing I hope it does.. is support better ban systems or at least some more security against scripting and shit like that... But as in all games I suppose some fat idiot somewhere on the globe will be sitting there... thinking AAAHAAAA .. new challenge and fuck it up for the rest of us...
You can see I've been dealing with this hacker shit for too long
OH ye.. and this taking out air accel... This means normal css playing with no bhop and no servers for surfing maps... should be interesting.. this will bring alot of traffic again (server wise)
judging by those screens (and the comment from the reviewer) its on the tf2 engine, which means that gg would need to be re-written afaik.
Unless they have some hidden models it looks like the old models were just direct ported to the tf2 engine. Are the models or textures any better coder? (hard to tell from the vid).
Lets hope so, wish I wasn't busy man, really would have liked to have been apart of this since I was apart of the beta for the very first counterstrike MOD for hl1... lol
I heard about this somewhere =\ I'm not the biggest fan of the idea, the kill cam might be cool though. Plus you'd be able to tell who is hacking without jumping in spec. The achievements sound cool too.
good or bad I'm just glad they're putting some time and effort in CS:S again... it's a game that sits above everything else they've ever put out in terms of long term playability. I mean the game was released at the end of 2004 and still has thousands of ppl playing it daily. On that note... there are still a shitload of ppl who play 1.6 which according to the steam page was released in late 2000... I thought it was earlier than that. but essentially the game is 10 years old and barring the dirty game by Blizzard is probably the no1 online game in the world still. They should be looking to keep it going... providing they made a big enough update and really made it worthwhile I'd be willing to pay for the game again, no hesitation.
