think of it in terms of, how much is all of your data on your computer worth? IMO $150 to make sure ya shit is safe is cheap. everyone should have a backup solution...

120 for a 1tb drive at my fav computer store in nz at the moment, and get avast home edition (free antivirus) so dont even need to spend $150 to get secure. Could prob do with a 500gb drive (for system folders and some files)

I don't really keep that much stuff on my computer, except my games, visual studio, and not a whole lot else...

To be honest the main thing I would be annoyed at losing would be all my settings (are a bitch to try and remember)...

Oh and I do have antivirus software on (AVG free ftw!) but I hardly let it scan... It's always the most innapropriate time when it starts...

vs? what do you use that for? web? c++? yes remembering settings for vs etc can be a bitch.

So far I've made a label printing program for work (with a nice GUI), I'm designing a custom GUI for a media player (for a touch screen) and I've taken on the task of making a nice front end for a sign-in program for the Fire Brigade that I'm in...

It's mainly for little projects nothing to drastic...
