Laptop?

Hey, was thinking of getting a laptop, from what i can find on the market atm

is my best bang for buck (yes i kno the overview makes it sound gay, but im talking about the specs)
over here it costs around 2700$ but in the states i can get one for $1700au +200 shipping.. the closest ive found here to compare is the dell m17x or the mac book pro.. both which are more expensive and have lower specs..
i prob wont play that many games on it (because i have a sexy mofo beast of a comp) but i do study architecture.. and having a descent gpu and ram plays a big part in how fast i get shit done etc etc (yes a workstation gpu is too expensive) im not that worried about battery life..
i would just go ahead and buy the fucker, but i havent bought a laptop before and wanna see wat other ppls opinions are on my choice or if they can recommend anything else?

Apart from the extremely "ooo look at me ima twat" description it looks pretty good for the price to spec (but then i dont know shit all about laptops either). Just know that for the amount your spending there is no way to get something that good for that price in nz.

Mind you wtf with the turbo boost? havent seen that on a computer since the x286 architecture days Any way you can go use one at a store just to make sure its what you want? The closest that i could see to that spec was the dell xps 16 but that would come out at $2500 (1.73ghz instead of 1.6) but only has radeon 4670.

Any chance you can let us know what truck thats falling off? (cheapest i could find in nz was $2980)

I haven't been following computers for several years, however, one thing I do know in the current martket, is that Intel i processors have really slow turbo spool, and caution should be taken when working these computers hard, especially around corners.

There have been many cases, where users had been pushing these processors, thinking it was all slow loading up several windows, listenting to music, playing games, and doing CAD work, then once the turbo had spooled, the computer was too fast, thus making the user lose control, and causing the computer crash, several of these crashes had been fatal...

So if you do end up getting this laptop Amz, I suggest you take caution with the "turbo boost" button!!!

if you do buy internationally then i would look into what the warranty and all that is like. as you dont want to get stuck with sending the lappy back to the states just to get something small repaired.

its got decent specs, but not my style, a lot of wank factor with the exhaust vents

and yeah not sure what this turbo boost is like but could be something to look into.

its good it has dual HDD, so that way you can get yourself a 64GB SSD to chuck in the other HDD spot as you know that will make it even better

Considering that the clocks are essentially reduced to a level where there will not be significant battery drain for a laptop and are still within the manufactured ghz range there shouldnt be any issues? Also the sampling of the cores load/freq 200 times a second i wonder how much delay there is really on the "spooling".

Best way to find out is to get some 1-on-1 time with the laptop you want to get and see how prevalent these issues are.

edit: umm snowy, those vents arent wank factor, the gfx card and cpu alone would burn a hole in amz's crotch/legs if they werent there.

i know they need the vents to cool out the insides, but you have to admit that they have accentuated the look of them

either way, if i had the cash and already had the pc im looking to build then i would get one of these in a snap. Specially for the price that amz found it for.

I'm sure there are plenty of articles on turbo lag causing accidents woffle. About 7 years ago I knew someone who was going pretty hard through a round-a-bout , half way through the the turbo had spooled and the surge of power came, he lost control and smashed into a telegrapgh pole. The crash wasn't fatal, but the cordia turbo was a write-off.

heh I was actually in harvey norman the other day and they advertise turbo boost on like half their laptops

snowy they have a 2 year international warranty n for 110 more u can get an extra year on that (but i think thats kind of pointless)

did some more research into problems with the laptop and i havent really found anything super solid thats wrong with it.. just random ppl having driver problems and problems with throttling. ohh and if you update to a certain version of bios the backlighting on the keyboard doesn't work.

...but another kinda thing which is slightly putting me off is that at the back this laptop is 5.8cms .. thats pretty fkn huge... but yeh ill prob still get it.. ive also found a couple of places which are cheaper too

thats not too bad man, what was the retail price of it over here though?

if u get it in like perth or something i found one for $2400 .. but its generally 2600-2700$$ so im still happy..
