Scarlet Thinking (nothing good can come of this =P)

So. At the DOA LAN, I was thinking how it's weird how we end up different places. Like, I'd never really met many of the guys at the LAN ever before. I knew medic and zebra because I'm friends with their brothers. And I'd kind of met fodder once or twice through reyne but didn't really know him.

Suddenly, I'm in a strange house with all these strange people and I didn't think twice about going there.

This has happened several times. Like, in the last few years, I've gone travelling all over Australia to meet over 30 online friends (DOA LAN bumped the number up to over 30). And I just had to trust that they would be there at the airport to pick me up and that they wouldn't molest me while I was staying at their house or anything. I've actually gotten really lucky because I've put myself in a vulnerable position so many times to meet online friends. I ended up having a blast and meeting them was SO great.

But do you ever kind of just stop and wonder how you got there? Even just meeting people locally... End up at some stranger's house for a party full of people you don't know... More often than not you end up having an awesome time.

I dunno... Blows my mind sometimes is all.

I dont over analysis any situation and just "go with the flow" so to speak, so nah i havent.

I got sick of playing against the same friends on counterstrike so i decided to look up some new online friends, i simply typed "Bundaberg" as a key word in the community search engine and started adding random ppl that live in bundaberg... This one guy seemed pretty cool, played css a fair bit over time and one day invites me to come around for a bbq and shit, i was like meh, fk it ok... met heaps of new ppl, had a great time and have been good friends ever since... So yeah, sometimes it is kinda weird how shit turns out...

last years lan i wasnt really going to go but then i had some spare money and just thought, fuck it lets go down there and meet the guys and i gotta say it was fucken worth it!! one of the best times ive ever had with a wicked bunch of guys.

same thing when i went to USA and NZ, i just went. USA was by myself and just went with the flow with whatever was going on and meet some wicked people in Vegas and did some stupid shit as well. shit i went to NZ for a snowboarding trip with a mate and ive never been snowboarding before! got really smashed every night and got carried away with it all in Queenstown. great way to meet new people

although it was a bit hard telling a few people that i wont be able to make their party or whatever was on coz im going to be down in tassie but fuck em ey?

I think you have been very fortunate to have awesome online friends who wouldn't want to harm you in any way. Sometimes situations feel surreal and you wonder WTF!?

We're doing the DOA-NZ lan sometime this year and I am have full faith that none of the guys would want anything bad to happen to any of the other people there. Kinda like implied respect?

I think on similar terms about things. Like, when you're having a downer, and you look back and think "why the f*k did that all that have to happen? Seriously!!".
But as it turns out, if all that sh*t hadn't happened I wouldn't be where i am today. Wouldn't have met mah besties, made drums, moved out, found love, quit drums, found a great job, played tf2, lost love, bought car, HTFU, found independence, played CSS, met surprisingly cool actual people online, etc, etc, and that's just for starters!!

I'm waiting to see what the outcome of current sh*t will be... can only hope it's as good as the first lot... because a chunk of the first lot has been taken away again... but not all of it i like to think it's for a reason.

Bad things happen for a reason!! They push you in the right direction & nudge you further along in life, and all that crap

Nah. Some of you guys completely missed my point lol. I do go with the flow, hence why I end up at things like a DOA LAN where I know almost no one xD It's just really random sometimes.

Back in December when I went travelling, my first stop was at a friend's house in Port Macquarie, NSW. I'd never spoken to this girl on the phone. We'd only txted and talked on mobile chat rooms. For all I knew, she could have been a 50 year old rapist. Thankfully for me, she and her boyfriend and their little 19 month old son were amazingly awesome and we had a great time xD

Sometimes I just look around a room and think how random it is that I'm standing in that particular place with those particular people at that particular time.

Tis a funny world this cyber space eh.

I think our lans, because they come from our "community based" server at least gives us a bit of insight into to each other, you know, the chat, the humour, the forums etc. Also the "no nonsense", the respect for others, the non discrimination etc.

I think these things all combine to give us a sense of "comfort" and friendship that we can experience with each other. We still have the chance of course that we have a LAN and one or two ppl are just total fkn diks lol, but all the above helps to filter them out.

Iv'e been stoked with our two lans and have really enjoyed hangin with em all. Its been great. My biggest worry was that so and so would be a fkwit in real life lol, but it hasnt happened yet.

I love the fact that LANs and meetings are happening all over the place, its really cool. I also think that the concept of us calling ourselves a "community based server" is only strengthened and reinforced by all these hookups, it really "personalises" the server. How many ppl come out with the comment that they love our server, that its all about "the community" or its the best community out there etc.

Thats the biggest and best thing about our server eh. And its ALL about the rules and attitudes that make it happen.

Smurf has moved down to Hobart for Uni too now, so him, Ed and Reyne will prolly hook up a fair bit. Reyne works at Tas Laser challenge too. Hows that for a buzz? Run round playin GG in the bush in real life and get paid for it.

I took a crew down for Tas Laser a couple yrs back, Me, reyne, zebra, cottonace, x factor, medic, couple of rands too, had a ball, really good fun.

I think NOW i get what you're talking about Scarlet- cookies!!! The having of blind trust in people you have never seen (thus- blind trust... duhr) and the amazing luck you have experienced in keeping all of your limbs and not becoming stranded (limbless or not)
