End of the world

You may or may not have heard of this but i thought it'd be a good thing to put up here.


The LHC is the world's largest and the highest-energy particle accelerator. It is funded and built in collaboration with over eight thousand physicists from over eighty-five countries as well as hundreds of universities and laboratories.

The collider is currently undergoing commissioning while being cooled down to its final operating temperature of approximately 1.9 K (−271.25 °C). Initial particle beam injections were successfully carried out on 8-11 August 2008, the first attempt to circulate a beam through the entire LHC is scheduled for 10 September 2008, and the first high-energy collisions are planned to take place after the LHC is officially unveiled, on 21 October 2008.

When activated, it is theorized that the collider will produce the elusive Higgs boson, the observation of which could confirm the predictions and missing links in the Standard Model of physics and could explain how other elementary particles acquire properties such as mass.

Concerns have been raised (including two legal challenges) regarding the safety of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) on the grounds that high-energy particle collisions performed in the LHC might produce dangerous phenomena, including micro black holes (mBHs), strangelets, vacuum bubbles and magnetic monopoles. Individuals such as Walter L. Wagner and Otto Rössler have argued in the media and through the Courts that the LHC experiments are unsafe and should be stopped.

So basically to sum all this up they are gonna smash a 2 particle beams into each other which has the possibility of creating a black hole which would have the potential to destroy the world in about 50 months. And to add on to that the Mayan calender also says the end of the world is in about 50 months.

WTF?

Particle Physics give me a Hadron.

But for serious... I'm a sucker for things like the Mayan Calender predicting the end of the world in 50 months and that this LHC could destroy it in that time - I find it funny... =/

i think the main thing is that there are plenty of physicists that say nothing will happen, and the media chooses to only tell the stories of the few that speeak out. typical i say.

i chose to put more of the negativity of the story because thats the way im leaning. i dont think we should be doing something that has the potential to destroy the world no matter how little the chance is.

Anyone that knows about black holes just goes "bar humbug, what a load of shit".,
A black hole by definition is an object of immense size and mass with enough gravitational pull as to not allow photons ( Light) to escape. In fact they are only a theory as we cant see them due to them being black in the black of space. The event horizon is the only clue that they exist or that something exists. So in short 2 particle beams with next to no mass cannot and will never cause a black hole and the scientists that think this, should upon losing any credentials they have after their name, have a vice permanently clamped onto their genitals as a warning to others.

Maybe they are as wrong about black holes as they are gravity ? until someone has a blck hole or has seen / experianced one you might as well call them pixies. dont exist never will never have. no offence to any pixies that post on this forum
