.avi files

I recently "legally" dled some avi video files. when i try to open them in windows media player, they play as audio files. does anyone no how to fix this?

If VLC can play everything.. why can't we just extract its codec sets and put them into WMP?

I have downloaded Sliders, and unfortunately all of season1 has russian audio as well as english. In VLC, you can just tick 'english' and it will play perfectly, however in WMP it plays both english AND russian at the same time, and you can't make it stop being a douche.

I prefer to use WMP (and I like using the one program for everything), but little things like that bug me. Anyone have any ideas there?

You can use WMP classic with K-Lite codecs...even though its not WMP 9 or whatever you got its still technically answering your question.

But classic isn't pretty

Don't those codecs affect all media players of any kind on the computer? Mine did.

I havent noticed any weird side effects, ive been using them for ages
