Whats the best single player shooter out there?

I am going to be stranded bored and lonely in the middle of some country town for just over a week, and I want a game to take out with me to allieviate the boredom. Last time I was out there I had Crysis to play (which I think was a cool game untill the aliens turned up, lol)

So I am looking into a new one to play. I am thinking of getting Bad Company, but I've heard the single player is not too impressive, or it's short? Any thoughts? I know a few people have gotten it recently.

Aside from that, i am kinda out of ideas.... I haven't kept up with what has come out recently.

I guess it doesn't have to be a shooter, just after some ideas of games to look out for

Fable. It's old and not my type of game but I'm enjoying it. I normally can't stand RPGs.

Farcry, farcry2, mass effect/mass effect 2, leisure suit larry (fps) , bioshock, umm cant think of anything else at the moment.

But would say mass effect and mass effect 2 are good choices, along with anything farcry as they take a while to finish. Bad company 2 the singleplayer is too short.

I played mass effect 2 the other week, it was a shitload of fun, really well made game. It's somewhat console-ised, and the rpg element isn't very strong, but the shooting gameplay was tops imo

it does have a good story, the scanning on planets takes a while and the hacking of the door pad things annoyed the frick out of me, but the shooting was awesome

Half Life anyone? ;]

I enjoy installing HL 1 and 2 and most of the expansions for something classic every now and then... Much more fun trying to finish them on the harder levels !!

Not a shooter but supreme commander 2 is Ace!

I ended up being able to pick up far cry and ghost recon complete for $20. Have to admit that moneys were an issue, and I cbf downloading if i didn't have to.

Ive heard far cry was good, so I'll give that a bash.

I do have fallout 3, but I haven't played through much of it. I did then re-install it and start playing a bad character, but it never quite held my attention. I played Oblivion to death, and kinda got over bethesda rpg's. I'll get back into it again one day, cause it is actually a pretty good game.

I nearly got mass effect 1 for $25, and can get mass effect 2 for $50, so I'll look into those soon, as they seem pretty good too

Oh, and I have actually played a bit of one of those barbie games... a horse one or something. I tell everyone I got it for my daughter to play on my laptop, but it's really a lie... I can't get enough of that girly pink vapidness....

Yeah woff, the hacking and crap in mass effect did get annoying midway through the game, they needed to have more ways of doing it. Same as the scanning planets, needed more variance. Shooting gameplay however was amazing.

@Quoth - ME1 imo is lackluster as opposed to ME2. Worth a look at to know the story I guess, but yeh.

I found farcry 2 to be waay to tedious in terms of getting to place to place. It's pretty visually good if you run it at full, but I didn't finish it cos I just got bored.

If you're into RPG's a bit i'd also recommend dragon age. It was hell addicting for a couple weeks when i bought it last year, and they just released an expansion for it, although it's a little bit pricey unless you take the option of trialling to full version.

I am intruiged about the way they apparently use the game save from Mass Effect to influence your character in Mass Effect 2. Anyone have any idea if this was at all worth while? otherwise I'd reckon I'd just get ME2.

I'm not sure on that - I didn't have my files from ME1, but I would assume it's just based on the paragon/renegade (good/bad) points your files have built up in ME1. It won't make much difference to the game - simply a few more options of things to say now and again depending on your moral decisions in ME1.

on a different topic, your sig with the bad company 2 thing, where you get it from? ive had alook around trying to find something like that for the ps3 modern warfare 2 but cant find one...

mw2 sucks balls give up... that is all.

The tag thing though is linked to the EA server, got it direct from EA as part of their stats program thing. Automatically updates the image each time their server updates.

Basically until MW2 has a stats server its up to you to make your own and update it each time.

yeah 47th man you gotta get onto bad company2 !!! fucken insane multiplayer action. so much better then MW2 in terms of realism.
BUT you cant play like you do in MW2 in BC2!!

i would suggest that everyone gets this game as online is crazy fun and IMO hands down best multiplayer shooter/war game out!!
