The 16-year-old youth was apprehended after officers working in the back of the Parks Police Station in Adelaide, Australia, heard the sound of breaking glass.

The long arm of the law did not have to reach far to deliver justice, and the boy was caught in the station hall.

The officers, who expressed surprise at his audacity, swiftly locked him up.

A police spokesman said the officers heard knocking on the front doors of the station in the early hours of the morning.

"The knocking quickly turned into the sound of smashing glass, with the patrol allegedly locating the youth in the front foyer of the police station," he said.

The spokesman said the youth did not give a reason for his actions, but may have had "a bit too much to drink."

The boy was charged with breaking into the building and with property damage after about A$2000 damage was caused a front window and the front sliding door, local media reported.

The hapless youngster was denied bail and is expected to appear in the Port Adelaide Youth Court.

A Halifax resident outsmarted two men who kicked in the front door of his Chebucto Road apartment at about 3:30 a.m. Saturday and demanded cash.

The man told the intruders he did not have any money but offered to go to a bank machine to get some as long as they waited for him in his appartment.

They agreed and waited in the apartment while he left and called police.

Halifax Regional Police said two men, 51 and 53, were arrested and will be charged with break and enter and robbery.
